Catherine Eden is a communications consultant, writing coach and freelance writer with a background in social science, teaching and journalism. Her experience as a township high school teacher during the riots of 1976 inspired her to do post-graduate training in the field of human interaction. She has an honours degree in Social Work from the University of Cape Town.
She began her career in journalism in 1989, working as a features writer for various newspapers and magazines before joining Fairlady Magazine in 1993 as features editor. In addition to running the features department, she was also a writer specialising in travel, complementary health, self-help and human interest stories. Between October 1998 and March 1999 she served as acting editor of the magazine.
Since 2000 she has worked as a freelance writer and editor while researching topics related to emotional and spiritual intelligence. A desire to share the tools that have profoundly affected her own life led her into corporate training (customer service and leadership), lecturing (professional communication and writing skills) and small group work (creative writing and journal writing).
She was associated for some years with the now-defunct Femina magazine and currently contributes to various South African publications. In 2009 she won the Pica award for Feature Writer of the Year.
Catherine offers courses and workshops in communication skills, creative writing and also facilitates a programme of journal writing for personal growth.
