Creative writing

This course focuses on unlocking creativity and encouraging participants to explore the richness of their own life stories. The sessions cover belief systems and blocks that might sabotage creative expression; personal experience and life themes; techniques to access intuitive, spontaneous, right-brain functions; practical tips for better writing, including common mistakes; and pointers for those interested in writing fiction (plot, voice, dialogue, pacing). We work with symbols, photographs and other writing prompts. There are short assignments to complete after each session, for which you will receive feedback. The course runs for four two-and-a-half hour sessions (cost: R1 000.00) followed by optional six-weekly workshops at R150 a time.

This course is designed for participants who want to embark on a journey of self-discovery.

It is suitable for people who are experiencing change, confronting challenging questions or simply feeling the need to write a journal and see where it takes them. No writing ability is required; it is an entirely private and personal process, conducted in a supportive, small-group setting. The course explores archetypes and life themes, authenticity, creativity, choice and other topics related to personal mastery. The course runs for four two-and-a-half hour sessions. Cost: R1 000.00

Next available dates:

Thursday evenings: 11, 18, 25 March – course full

Wednesday mornings: 31 March, 7, 14, 21 April

Course two: Understanding your energy system

An optional follow-on from course one, this four-part programme goes more deeply into self-awareness, using the human energy system as a framework. We look at the life issues associated with each energy centre in the body, explore where we may be ‘stuck’ and how to maximise our potential through being conscious of our personal resources and challenges. The course runs for four two-and-a-half hour sessions. Cost: R1 000.

Next available dates:

Monday/Wednesday mornings: 3, 5, 10, 12 May

Tuesday/Thursday evenings: 1, 3, 8, 10 June

Professional communication

This course is designed for participants who need to improve their communication skills and writing ability. We explore the resistance to putting words on paper, the concept and expression of creativity and how understanding oneself improves communication with others. There is an emphasis on practical exercises; common mistakes are explained and examples of good and bad writing are discussed in detail. The course runs for four two-hour sessions.

    Hi Cathy,

I have just had coffee with Liz Sykes who told me about you.
I had a very interesting experience recently in Vienna where I was stranded for 10 days because my passport was stolen.
I wrote a journal the entire time I was there (it kept me sane!) and am busy re-hashing it.
I have often kept journals, beginning as a teenager, and am an avid reader and keen letter-writer. I am having a great deal of fun writing about my time in Austria (now in the comfort of my own home), and have several friends who have expressed an interest in reading it when I have finished. I would love some guidance, but appear to have just missed the first lecture of your series. Could I catch up ? Monday mornings, evenings or Tuesday mornings are all good for me at the moment.

I look forward to your reply.
    Kind regards,
    Pam Carter.

    Hello Kathy

Do you issue any certifictes after taking workshops?

  3. Cathy says:

hallo Galina, this is a creative writing rather than a language course, but I can issue a certificate if you want one.
